The Samudra Biru is a newly retrofitted in 2010 70ft custom power catamaran that was re-designed specifically for Indonesian surf charters by owner-operators Mike Corica, David Klein, Adam Kranz, and Rob Morris. Powered by twin 420hp Cummins turbo diesel engines, and with its hyperlight design and a draft of only 3 feet, the Samudra Biru is one of the fastest surf charter vessels operating in the Mentawai islands. She has a top speed of 15 knots, with an average daytime cruising speed of 10-12 knots depending on conditions, and a nighttime cruising speed of 8-10 knots (for safety). Biru's catamaran hull design provides stability at sea and eliminates rock and roll at anchor.

The Samudra Biru's speed provides its guests with a tactical advantage in being able to minimize travel time and maximize surfing time throughout the trip, enjoying surf at the lesser-known remote and isolated locations. The "Biru" has a range of 1000nm and does not require refueling in the course of a trip even with significant motoring around at its fastest speeds throughout the Mentawais chain.

The Biru is equipped with an array of safety and navigational equipment including GPS, radar, depth sounder and SSB radio. She has a Satellite phone on board and remains in constant communication with the stateside partners for regular swell and wind updates provided by Surfline.com & Lola and Buoy Weather.com. Samudra Biru offers accommodations for up to ten surfers and is fully air-conditioned and carpeted throughout her interior. Her onboard features and amenities include:

• Ten sleeping berths including two double cabins. All berths offer full seating headroom and windows to the outside.
• Main salon providing panoramic views with seating for everyone
• Entertainment center provides VHS, Flat screen TV and DVD player for movie viewing.
• Stereo for CD music and ipod compatible
• Complete refrigeration and freezer system for fresh food and beverage service
• Shaded aft and forward decks, including large galley and dining area

The Samudra Biru's renovations include a new upgraded galley (kitchen) and a new custom surf rack to hold up to 30 boards out of the sun. All the interior has been replaced along with an upgraded ac system. We've added a large canopied new deck out front to keep out the sun and in the wheel house we have added a special satellite phone along with free incoming phone calls. All generators are new and engines have been overhauled to provide all of our clients the trip of a lifetime. The Biru also has 2 dinghys...one is a 12 foot inflatable with a 15hp and the other is a 15 foot inflatable with 30 hp engine ... the "two tenders" offer our guests greater flexibility in exploring the various breaks the Mentawais have to offer.
