HUATULCO - ADVENTURE TOURS

TOUR OF THE BAYS

The Bahías de Huatulco tourist complex consists of nine bays and several beaches with golden sand and azure waters surrounded by local vegetation along its entire length of 35 km. From north to south, the bays are San Agustín, Chachacual, Cacaluta, El Maguey, El Organo, Santa Cruz, Chahué, Tangolunda and Bahía de Conejos. One of the calmest, most beautiful beaches is in Bahía de San Agustín, a broad horseshoe of golden sand surrounded by beautiful rocky headlands. Get to see the incomparable beauty of our bays and beaches, as well as the magnificent underwater parks and the capricious rock formations that create the "bufadero" and the "cara de piedra" in the Organ Bay. In this tour you will have the opportunity to swim and snorkel to enjoy the coral reefs, as well as the music, fun, and exquisite seafood. There are half-day tours or complete day tours that visit five or seven of the bays during the vacation season. We also recommend the sunset cruise. The boats that visit, sail or fish in the surrounding areas depart from Santa Cruz Bay, from where the divers that explore the remains of sunken ships depart.

SCUBA DIVING & SNORKELING

The fascinating shoreline of the Huatulco bays is a melting pot of beaches, cliffs, isles, crevices and coral reefs that offer the diving fan a great variety of attractions. For the amateur scuba diver and the snorkeling fan the reefs of the Entrega beaches, in Santa Cruz Bay, off the Riscalillo and San Agustin beaches as well as the coral plates of the Cacaluta and Montosa islands, basically formed by three species of hard and stony coral, offer a wide variety of biological attractions due to the diversity of life forms that find their ideal habitat in the reefs. It is normal to find big schools of fish swimming among the coral structures in search of food. It is also common to find small sharks and sometimes turtles, hiding between the cavities of the coral formation.

These turtles come to the reef to rest from the difficult fight for survival they encounter in the open sea. If you watch carefully it will not be hard to find several species of crabs, snails, bivalves, tubicolous worms, spyrographs, sponges and even, if you get lucky, sea horses, nudibranchiates or globe fish hiding or camouflaged among the branches. The depth of these areas do not exceed 8 meters though the sandy bottom in some zones may be located at 31 meters.

RIVER RAFTING

Another attraction is the whitewater rapids in Río Copalito that come down from the Sierra Madre del Sur. The highway to Oaxaca City crosses the river near Candelaria Loxicha, as does the dirt road leading from Santa Marúa Huatulco to San Miguel del Puerto. This is a good place to start going down the rapids when the river level is high (June-December). You can select among a variety of descents; class I to class IV, and you can chose from different types of water crafts such as kayaks, rafts or canoes. It is one of the most intense tours due to the combination of water and the scenery of the ravines.

The Tangolunda Golf Club, designed by F.M. Schjetnan, is one of the best golf courses in Mexico. It has 18 holes, par 72, with a length of 6,851 yards. The natural exuberance of the surroundings, the trees, sandbanks, cactuses and small lagoons, make it extraordinarily beautiful.
