Morocco : Overview
The North African country of Morocco is the epicenter of North Atlantic falland winter ground swell activity with a peak surfing season spanning fromOctober to April. Whereas Western Europe receives the brunt of NorthAtlantic cold fronts, gale force winds, and freezing water temperatures,Morocco receives only ground swells, coupled with seasonal watertemperatures in the high 50s to low 60s, desert sun, and some of the best righthand pointbreaks in the world.

Morocco’s proximity to the Nth Atlantic storm track ensures both high consistency and size. Deepwater swell heights can vary from 3ft up to 18ft!
Fortunately there are plenty of surf spots here including wrapping righthand pointbreaks, playful beachbreaks, and even heaving ledges, which can amplify or diminish the raw swell height to ensure there is always good surfing available. In Central Morocco, the Taghazoute area faces directly NW and to the Southit nestles behind a huge cape, which funnels the consistent North winds intoan offshore direction and cleans up big wooly winter swells. These elements coupled with flat rock and sand points, easily accessible waves on good roads, balmy winter land temperatures, and mind-blowing cultural diversity makes for a truly exotic surf trip.

The Taghazoute area is the primary focus of Wavehunters Moroccan surf tours forwhich we have teamed up with local operator Surf Maroc, managed by Britishexpatriot surfers Ben O’Hara and Ollie Boswell, to offer a first classsurfing tour and experience worthy of a Wavehunters signature product with fully-guided 4x4 surfing tours to all area breaks and fully-furnished surf-front apartments including both luxury and moderate standard accommodations for surfers on different budgets.
A relatively novel destination for American surfers, Central Morocco haslong been a staple of the European surfing experience (Europe’s Baja) with a reputation for feral surf travel. However, recent infrastructure improvements including luxury apartment development at the surf-front, and improvements to roads, local infrastructure, and an overall receptiveness to Western tourists and stable political system, has elevated Central Morocco to an international class surfing destination. The sheer # of quality breaks in the Taghazout area, as well as in outlying areas several hours to the north and south, means lots of uncrowded surf on tap. With our expert local Moroccan guides you will be on it!
