Frigate Passage offers the ideal conditions that naturally generate these kind of world class waves. Come surf the Fiji Pipeline and live the island way without the crowds, stress, and traffic of the mainland. Beqa Lagoon Resort provides professionally managed high speed surf transfers via its 30ft center console speedboats with 200hp outboards. Travel time to the pass is approximately 45minutes but varies depending on sea and wind conditions inside the lagoon.
Frigates is a world class wave suited for advanced intermediate to expert level surfers. The wave is an extremely consistent lefthander bending around a shallow, but fairly forgiving reef. Frigates is well exposed to all swells from the South and being west-facing enjoys prevailing offshore trade winds. Frigates is the most exposed to swell and LEAST CROWDED of all the surf breaks in Fiji. It will break anywhere from head-high to triple overhead (4-18ft), never closing out and is for experienced surfers only. The wave consists of a big bowly take-off section, followed by a fast, hollow freight-train section, and a dangerously shallow inside section-- don’t ride the wave all the way in. Unfortunately this is a one wave trip, and there are no beginner surf spots anywhere in proximity to Beqa Lagoon Resort.
Beqa Lagoon Resort is the ideal resort destination for a surfer to come with his wife or girlfriend and surf mornings out at Frigates Passage and spend the afternoons lounging around the resort with a significant other in a fantasy island environment. It is also the ultimate hybrid surf & dive trip, or a great trip for surfers interested in learning how to scuba dive. The resort boasts a fully-licensed dive operation offering Open Water PADI certification courses. The fishing is also world class and the resort offers both half-day and full day charters to its guests at additional charge. Beqa Lagoon Resort is an excellent option for a honeymoon that will not disappoint a non-surfing spouse.
Beqa Lagoon Resort is ideal for a surfer who is content surfing (1) 3 hour session per day out at Frigates, which is usually plenty for just about any surfer. Beqa Lagoon Resort does not offer the surfer as many surf options as Samoa, Indonesia, or the Maldives, and is not a hardcore surf resort catering specifically to surfers, but it does offer one excellent, uncrowded surf option in Frigates Passage, and offers professionally managed speedboat transfers. Frigates Passage is a goofy-footers dream, and an awesome wave for natural footers who like to go backside on freight train lefthand bowls.
