SOUTHERN COSTA RICA : Fishing

The Zancudo Lodge has established itself as the leading exclusive Costa Rican fishing lodge with over 60 I.G.F.A. world records. For the past 20 years, the Zancudo Lodge has advocated catch and release of all billfish which is now a common practice among Costa Rican fisherman.



Our complete fleet consists of 12 modern 28 foot center consoles powered by twin Suzuki four stroke engines + 2 NEW state-of-the art Twin Vee Catamarans 36 foot and 32 foot equipped w/Twin 250hp outboards. Each boat, custom built for fishing, is equipped with the latest electronics, live bait wells and outriggers. Our guests will fish with first class equipment, second to none. Our newly built docks house an I.G.F.A. certified scale for those guests on the quest of breaking that world record.

The Zancudo Lodge is world renowned for its inshore and offshore fishing. The lodge will customize any range of fishing adventure the angler desires, from inshore to offshore or fishing the river banks. We carry the most modern fishing equipment where our clients will have the ability to select any tackle of choice, from ultra light to fly. Our captains well known for their persistent and competitive nature, are all highly trained to ensure that our clients experience that ultimate fishing adventure at The Zancudo Lodge.

All Marlin species are caught year round. The peak time for Blue Marlin is November and December, March and April while the Black Marlin peak is during July and August.

Common year round but peaking from November to May. It is not unusual to catch more than 20 Sails in any given day.

Year round species with seasonal highs during November to April.

Rare find which appears from time to time

Large yellowfin, in the 200-300lb range are often found feeding under the large schools or porpoises. Schoolie sized Yellowfin are available year round. Bigeye, considered the bruisers in the tuna family, are common in our area. Hooking a large bigeye will lead you on an epic multi-hour fight.

All Marlin species are caught year round. The peak time for Blue Marlin is November and December, March and April while the Black Marlin peak is during July and August.

There are over a dozen types of snappers ranging between 15 to 100 pounds.

Always available and common sizes range from 20-70 pounds.

Some of the best snook fishing is found on our river. Choose your weapon, from ultra light spinning gear to fly rods.
