Pavones & Matapolo

Pavones and Matapolo are the gravy of Costa Rica Surfing. One long-time local stated that the difference between Pavones and the rest of the Costa Rica is like the difference between surfing Rincon and surfing T-Street in San Clemente. Pavones and Matapolo both require South swells to work, which occur predominantly in the months April-November. Crowds are much less here than other areas of Costa Rica due to the inaccessibility of the region.
